Hadith

‏ ‏‏It was narrated that Tariq bin Shihab said:

“Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws ) say: Whoever among you sees an evil and changes it with his hand, then he has done his duty. Whoever is unable to do that, but changes it with his tongue, then he has done his duty. Whoever is unable to do that, but changes it with his heart, then he has done his duty, and that is the weakest of Faith.'”

* ‘Should change it with his hand’ meaning if he has the authority, the power, and the ability, as indicated because the average person is not allowed to take the law in his own hand;it would othetwise give birth to anarchy. The
implementation of the prescribed legal punishments is also the responsibility of the government. Individuals may not implement them, nor are they commissioned or charged with tallying it out. That is why Allah’s Messenger stipulated the condition of ability.
*    ‘Then with his tongue’: This is evelyone’s responsibility when capable, except for when there is the difference of the ranks; For example, children in front of parents, students in front of the teacher, the ruled in front of the ruler; and slaves in front of the master do not have the ability to speak out. Or when there is the risk of losing one’s life, as it comes in the forthcoming narration.
* ‘With his heart’ meaning he must at least believe it is evil, and the Prophet pbuh included this among Faith.
* We get to learn that witnessing the sin taking place is also a sin, except for the one who fulfills his duty imposed upon him by the Shar’iah
