Home Prayer (its time) Time of witr prayer

Time of witr prayer

Witr is an arabic word which means odd number,

Because the number of reka’t in this prayer is odd number therefore it is known as witra or witr Prayer

Assalam alaikum warahmatullahe wabarkatohu,

Dear brothers and sisters, we perform witra Prayer always (those who pray 5 times a day regularly ) but

Do we know that what is the time period for performing witr Prayer. ?

What is the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ related to performing this prayer?

So let us know about that in the light of authentic teaching of Prophet Muhammadﷺ

Time of Witr prayer

It was narrated that Jabir bin “Abdullah (ra) said:

“The Messenger of Allah (saws ) said to Abu Bakr: “When do you pray Witr?’ He said: “At the beginning of the night, after “Isha’.’ He said: “And you, O “Umar (ibn khattab)   ?’ He said: “At the end of the night.’

The Prophet (saws ) said: “As for you, O Abu Bakr, you have seized the trustworthy handhold (i.e., you want to be on the safe side), and as for you, O “Umar (ibn khattab) , you have seized strength (i.e., you are confident that you have the resolve to get up and pray Witr).'”

Book 5, Hadith 400

Conclusion 👇

From the above hadith we came to know that a person can perform witr Prayer at any time after Obligatory Prayer of Isha (night Prayer) and before Starting dawn (time of fazr prayer )

Between this time period we can perform witra  Prayer at any time

A person can only offer Witra prayer after he or she has already performed Obligatory Prayer of Isha (fard)

There is misconception about the status of this prayer in ummah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that this period is obligatory or just as sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ so we will discuss about the status in next article
